Me... Phobic?

I watched Brokeback Mountain this weekend. By myself of course. Hubby just couldn't bring himself to watch it. I pointed out to him that he wouldn't have any problems watching two women fondle and kiss each other, and his triumphant response was "And would that make me a lesbian?".

Hum.... no. It wouldn't. Which was supposed to be my argument. But whatever.

I liked it. I'm a sucker for love stories. Especially those about unrequited love. And though there were aspects of the movie that were hard to watch, I think the director did a fabulous job of getting you past those scenes and presenting the characters as people you really can care about. I found myself caring deeply. Even today, the story is still on my mind.

It wasn't a good knitting movie. Especially for lace socks. These should be much further along.

Sunshine Yarns in Harvest
Addi Circs Size 0 (bleh)

Project Spectrum yellow and orange socks. These are my first ever toe up socks, and I have to say, so far I am loving it. The pattern also calls for short row heels, so we'll see if I'm still feeling the love when I get there. I'm hoping to get some time to dye and spin some yellow and orange fiber this month as well.

I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't convince your husband to watch the movie, in spite of his less-than-impeccable logic about it. Glad you enjoyed it, though.

Lovely sock!

I thought Brokeback was good. I was surprised at the violence in the, err, love scenes, and couldn't help but wonder if that's typical. Anyway, the socks are great - love the yarn, love the pattern.

I'm still on the fence about whether I'll ever see Brokeback. My husband states "no way" about whether he'll ever see it.

I love the Elfine socks - they're great in that colorway - shows off the stitch detail very nicely. I've been wanting to try that pattern - need to decide on the yarn color I want to use. Maybe I'll copy you. :)

I thought Brokeback was a bit disappointing. Sadly, I couldn't feel that the characters loved each other. That being said, it was an absolutely beautifully filmed movie--made me want to go out to Wyoming!

I watched it this weekend too - much in the same way... husbandless and with a knit in my hands. It was a beautiful movie, and the story itself moved me. I have been thinking about it for days - and I often get another little tear in my eye. (even as I write this post...)

The PS socks are so beautiful - I look forward to seeing more of them!

Best wishes,
Lolly

I loved the Ice Storm, so I want to see Brokeback. I think my husband might watch it with me, but I've been in no-brainer movie mode lately.

Great sock. I like the yarn and the pattern.

Elphine looks great in the Sunshine Yarn! I didn't realize those were toe-up (I suffer from a rare form of Knitting Illiteracy), that only enhances their appeal.

Your Elfine socks are lovely! That colorway really does show off the stitch detail. Are you doing two at a time or just one?

Your Elfine sock is beautiful! The colorway is unusual and striking, and I love how well it works with the pattern. Just gorgeous! I love when husbands use the reverse Jedi mind trick and make you doubt your own sanity and logic in the process. ;-) I'm hoping to see that movie soon, but I suspect it will be in much the same position as you, knitting in tow and sans DH. Take care, Leah! :-)

I just have to say the socks are looking great!

ooohh - what lovely socks. All these folks knitting in the lovely golden yellow makes me want to join in :-) What a great pattern for that yarn!
Haven't seen that movie yet - but I hope to soon.

I had the same reaction -- I thought about the movie for days -- it was so powerful and tragic. Aren't those socks pretty!

Your Elfine socks are gorgeous. I am almost finished my first sock ever and it has given me a whole new appreciation for sock knitters!
Also, Alberta is the stand in for Wyoming in "Brokeback Mountain" so if you fell in love with the scenery, and it is even lovlier in real life, the foothills of Alberta are where you want to go. The short story the movie was based on left much more unsaid than the movie did. Personally, I vastly prefer Annie Proulx' books and stories to the movies that get made from them.

OH! YOU are my mentor - I am so chicken to make toe-up socks.

Seeing your lovely start is making me woobly! HERE I GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO over the cliffffffffffff...

[I love that pattern]

Great socks! I, too, am going to watch the movie- it's on my Netflix list now. My husband told me that he won't watch it with me, as its not his "bag." Whatever.
