I'm settling into the new job, the kids are back in school and life is starting to feel more normal to me. This is good. I have what is probably a pathological need to maintain what I consider to be control of my affairs. Illusion? Probably. But that's how I get up in the morning, and I'm okay with that.
The job is good. Nice, professional people. No Unhappy Woman. I don't get the Sunday afternoon depression thinking about Monday morning anymore.
I'm working on my Toasty Toes socks, which brings me to the title of today's post. Logic says these socks should be working for me. The colors are perfect for fall (even the name of the yarn says fall: CTH Supersock in Cabin Fever). The pattern, I thought, was going to be perfect. It's Creeping Vines Socks by Evelyn Skae from the TownsendSocksKnitALong group on Yahoo. The pattern reminds me of falling leaves and bare branches against a crisp fall sky. All the design elements are there.

Where's the love, baby?
Maybe it's the Cherry Tree Hill, which would be a shame because I have a ton of it in my stash. I prefer to think it's the nature of a lacey fabric to bunch up and be completely unappealing until it's blocked. There is that small voice in the back of my head that questions the wisdom of a lacey pattern (even if it's only partially lacey) for fall/winter socks. But we're ignoring the voices in my head for the time being. I so want this to work!

I like them. If I'm you're Toasty Toes pal just carry on. ;-)

It's very pretty and lacey socks are fine in winter (I think, anyway). But, that said, it's not good to ignore the voices in your head.

I like them too. There is not a lot of lace and I think that makes them just fine for winter.

I like the sock, and the colours are great. Maybe the pattern will show better when you are wearing them.

The sock looks beautiful! And I'm so glad the job is going well. There's little that's more miserable than absolutely hating to head off to work each morning.

I think it's beautiful, but I agree with Margene about not ignoring those voices.

I know what you mean about the *bunching* thing - I'm working on something right now that is sort of doing that and it made me lose faith for a little bit. Take a deep breath - stand back and look again...
I have a buddy who makes lacey socks out of CTH all the time and they look really great when seen from my viewpoint (erm, 4 ft?).

I have to say when I've ignored the voices in my head I've ended kicking myself. HARD. The colorway is pretty -- maybe it is too much for the simple lace pattern? It is always a hard balance to find when you like lace and you like handpainted yarn. Go with your gut.

Oh what a conundrum. Love the colorway - love the pattern - but hate ignoring those voices. Maybe the voice thinks you want to be using a less variegated yarn?
Thank heaven you don't have that "Dreading Monday" problem on Sundays. That must really make a lot of things in life more bearable.... like restarting a sock.... right?? :)

I have a bunching issue with some lacey patterns until I wash the socks. It's just the nature of some patterns. But like everyone else is saying here..... it's usually good to go with your gut.
I do like the color combo with the yarn! Very pretty!

Love the colors in that colorway - perfect for Fall. I like the pattern, too. I'll be interested to see it done and blocked in all its glory!

Hey! Are these the ones you're making for me? I can't remember which yarn I settled on. But seems like it was either this one or "Indian Summer". In any case, they look yummy to me! Knit on!

I like them too, the pattern is great. But, if you are hearing voices in your head, we either need to call the men in the white coats to come and get your OR you should listen to them as much as you might not want to. Because if you are not totally happy with them then you aren't going to want to knit them (at least that has been my past experience).
