A Bit of the Old, and New

Alternately titled: Winter Wonderland My A$$ (Thanks Terrisa)!

Courtesy of the first winter ice storm of the 2007/2008 season here in Oklahoma, I am going on the fourth day of my weekend. Perfect conditions for some spinning. In fact, when the electricity was out for six hours yesterday, I felt almost like a pioneer woman spinning by the light of my (ahem*gas*ahem) fireplace.

Ambience aside, I was glad when the power came back on. Of hardy stock I am not.

Besides, only modern, digital technology could bring you these pretty pictures!

Enjoy!

The ice is so beautiful but very disturbing. Thank goodness you're safe and warm.

Beth:

I was thinking "Oh, the ice is so pretty" until I got to the last picture. Yikes!

Your spinning is beautiful!

amanda:

gorgeous ice shots leah! and that roving...those are my colors!!! i must know what it is was. now. and please :)

Heartbreakingly beautiful . . . it's gorgeous, but my heart always aches for the poor trees.... (Not to mention the people out on the roads.)

It's beautiful but scary. I'm glad you're safe.

Oh that poor tree.
I love the color of the fiber you are spinning. Beautiful!

Wow, what a storm! Yikes!

Beautiful photos - I was thinking 'that's what you call winter' until I realised that it actually went with the storms they've been talking about in the news over here (UK). We had a bit of frost overnight last night but nothing like what you're showing us!

O.K. These pictures are amazing although the downside is that you can see just how cold it is over there right now! I heard about the power outages and thoroughly cold weather affecting the rest of the nation right now:( I am thinking warm happy thoughts right now and sending them your way.

The photos are beautiful. It makes me nostalgic for long ago winters when it was cold, and we had snow. These days winters here on the south coast of England are mostly damp and dreary. We even grow palm trees here in Weymouth without fear of the winter weather killing them off.

fabulous photos. I am glad that you were at least warm during that horrid storm. so sorry to hear of all the devastation...

OH my! Those are pretty pictures. And I can just imagine how ccccold!!

Wow! The ice is beautiful. But it sure is destructive! I still remember the ice storm here in Indiana a couple years back. Being without power for over a week sucked. And the poor trees still haven't recovered.

Terrisa:

LOL! Wow! My email subject line made your blog! I'm a star! We continue to teeter in and out of the civilized world. We were powerless all day Monday and Monday night (which was fun for while but got old fast). Had power Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. Then off again for a few hours. Then on again Wednesday evening. At about 10pm David & I were in the jacuzzi tub enjoying a nice hot bath when the darkness fell again. Remarkably, we had already become complacent enough to not have candles or a flashlight close by so we had to stumble around in the buff for a while! Fortunately the power came back on around midnight and so far, so good today. I'm just praying we have power this weekend when the big snowstorm get here! Whee!

I'm glad the power came back on in a relatively short time, and you are all safe. Those storms are scary. I remember one while I was still living in Maine several years back that left us without power for over a week. Not fun at all.

The ice is beautiful to look at, but knowing how it wreaks havoc on trees and power lines (not to mention the driving conditions) really detracts from the beauty. However, the roving you are spinning is gorgeous, no matter what! I love the colors.

Your ice photos are great and make me very anxious for Christmas. DH is giving me a digital camera and I can't wait to try it out.

Please - what is that fiber on your wheel? I love the colors.

Wow, just wow. I know it's totally destructive, but there's little as beautiful as ice-covered trees.

I'm glad you were able to make the most of your power outage! Not many people would have been able to be so productive.
